Embark Reception and Artist Discussion
Dialogue with Embark artist Kathranne Knight and Ignatius Widiapradja at Market One 10/07/17.
It was a cool fall evening but great discussion was shared with all at the Market One Building. Kathranne and Ignatius discussed issues of our cultural memory. Kathranne had been influenced by the Younkers Department store and local icon of the Tea Room.
Memory and nostalgia are a mirror upon yourself. - KK
The reopening of the Wilkins Building by Blackbird Investments this fall has sparked much introspection and debate about the values associated with place and memory. Including aspects of what we view as shared culture past, present, and future. The Wilkins building represents layers of history going back its construction being a large local attraction at the time. The re-opening of the building is also a re-purposing, but with the on-going commitment to the remaining place of cultural significance.
