Embark is the inaugural exhibition for Rush Hall at Wilkins and the George Stout Fellowship for Art in the Public Sphere. Embark features work from artists based in Ames, Chicago, Boston, St. Louis, and Nova Scotia. This work features a diverse range of perspectives as way start to chart out territory for upcoming exhibitions to support the mission of the Stout program. Our collaboration with Blackbird Investments to bring new creative perspectives to central Iowa begins with Embark.
Embark is curated by Kevin Lair. The exhibit features work focusing on themes that emerged from the cultural history of the Younkers Tea Room, aspects of the local history in Madison County and the rural Midwest, global ecology and the human/non-human relationship, and formal explorations of shifting and layered grids. The exhibit will be unveiled in conjunction with the re-opening
of the Tea Room on September 6th and closing January 3rd, 2018.
Rush Hall at Wilkins will be open to the public from 1 – 5pm on Saturdays and by appointment. It will also be open to the public on special days and announced on our website and on social media. The Stout mission is to build networks through
